Sarah Roumas began studying Byzantine Chant with Fr. Romanos Karanos in 2013. She received her certificate in Byzantine Music with a grade of Excellent in 2015, and has taught privately, in-person and online, since 2017.

Sarah received a B.A. in physics from Harvard University, an M.T.S. and a Th.M. from Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology, and a Ph.D. in liturgical theology from the University of Notre Dame. She studies the development of the Byzantine liturgical books and biblical interpretation in Byzantine hymns. Her dissertation analyzed the development of the hymns for Lazarus Sunday in Greek Triodion manuscripts from the eleventh to fourteenth centuries.

Sarah chants at Sts. Anargyroi Greek Orthodox Church in Marlborough, MA, and works in the Admissions Department at Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology.
