Eleftherios Chasanidis is the Master Chanter (Protopsaltis) of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the National Cathedral of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, and a professional opera singer. Born in Thessaloniki, Greece, he studied Byzantine Music from a young age under the guidance of his father, Ioannis Chasanidis, a prominent Protopsaltis, pedagogue, and composer of Byzantine Music.

Eleftherios began playing the violin at the age of six and later studied Violin Performance at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki. At the same time, he earned Conservatory degrees in Tonal Harmony, Counterpoint, Fugue, and a Diploma in Byzantine Music. His advanced studies in the United States include a Master’s degree and Artist Certificate in Voice Performance from Georgia State University. He is currently a Doctoral Candidate in Voice Performance at the University of Georgia, studying under Frederick Burchinal of the Metropolitan Opera.

In 2023, Eleftherios made his solo debut at Carnegie Hall. Over the course of his career, he has performed on stages across the United States and Europe, portraying roles such as Figaro, Gianni Schicchi, Valentin, Guglielmo, Don Basilio, Olin Blitch, Raimondo, Ottone, and others. His concerto and oratorio repertoire includes works by Mozart, Handel, Beethoven, Schubert, and contemporary composers.

Chasanidis has received numerous awards for his academic and artistic achievements. He has collaborated with notable organizations such as Cappella Romana, Music Academy International, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki State Concert Hall, Greek Composers’ Union, and the Greek Consulate of Atlanta. Following in his father’s footsteps, Eleftherios continues the tradition of the unique Mount Athos style (yphos) of chanting. He also specializes in vocal training for Byzantine Music, dedicating himself to preserving and teaching the intricate techniques and traditions of this ancient art form.
